This semester I am taking the minium of 12 credits, yet it managed to ring up a damage of 6 books. Coming up with the money for the books wasn't a problem because I have a full pellgrant, but having to transport these books with me everywhere on center along with my other backpack nesscessities, and a tote-bag is. I have a very decent carry-on backpack. It is well made, has lots of storage space, and strong zippers. But even the strongest backpack won't save your spine and posture from being sore and possiably injured when you have to hull 6 textbooks across campus all day. I was told that it would be smart to invest in the roller backpacks because they are easier on your back, unfortunatly my pelgrant couldn't afford in that. I thought about saving up some money in hopes to one day buy it, but after seeing the pull-handle hiliariously break off of my friends Dom's backpack I thought maybe it wasn't such a smart investment. So here I am stuck with 6 heavy textbooks in my backpack.
I see lockers all around campus, but I never see any of them being used. Sometimes I wonder why they are even there. I think that if you have a certain number of textbooks/credits then you should be legiable to use one of these lockers for a semester.
I think that student body should rent lockers out to people that need them. I know that I wouldn't mind having to walk across campus to accquire my textbooks, it would be much better then having to carry them up flights of stairs, in between classes etc...besides it would be good excercise, and make my back happy.

I totally agree with you this is a big issue for me and alot of other students to because im haveing the same problem to except yours is much worse because you have to deal with 6 books and i have 4. Why didnt i think of this lol. Im glad you deceided to write about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree I also face the same problem. I was forced to buy a roller back pack because my back could not handle the weight of all those books. I also think it would be a good idea if they rented out those lockers for students who actually need them.
ReplyDeleteI think they should just make lighter books... I don't know a single student that actually reads every word in their text book. Just condense them a little more. Also I think the teachers should tell us know when we will be using our books. There's no point in lugging around your books all day if you're not even going to use them.

I agree with you! I'm taking 12 credits as well and since there's never anywhere to park i have to bring all my books with me so i'm not late to class and they are heavy. I've also noticed lockers all over campus and wondered what they were for...I've never seen anyone use them. I think that the student body should be able to use them.
